Coast Transit Authority Celebrates Earth Day

Coast Transit Authority is celebrating Earth Day on Monday, April 22nd, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Gulfport Transit Center Hub (1401 20th Avenue, Gulfport, MS). The public is invited to see CTA’s environmentally friendly bus and vehicle fleet that helps preserve the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. Coast Transit Authority continually adds to “go green” efforts in public transportation.

Attendees can also ride the free propane-fueled CTA Tram Trolley. The CTA Tram Trolley runs every 15 minutes starting between the Mississippi Aquarium and Gulfport Transit Center, traveling throughout Jones Park and back at Ship Island Excursions. The CTA Tram Trolley provides a safe, ADA accessible, and convenient ride to Jones Park across Highway 90 on the CTA Tram Bridge.

Vehicles on display will include CTA’s Battery Electric Bus (BEB), a hybrid electric bus, and a dual-fueled (gas and propane) bus. CTA will also have a Coast Commuter vehicle on-site. CTA’s vanpool program saved an approximate 126,148 gallons of fuel and reduced CO2 by 2,441,850 pounds in 2023. Attendees can also view one of CTA’s many solar-paneled bus shelters located around the center.

Event parking for guests will be complimentary in the CTA Parking Garage, located at 1417 20th Avenue, Gulfport. Those who ride the bus are welcome to bring their bike and ride across the CTA Tram Bridge. Due to the static display of buses, CTA Gulfport Hub operations will be moved to 15th Street, just north of the CTA Parking Garage. This alternate pickup point will begin on April 22 at 8:30 a.m. and go until 3:00 p.m.
