Coast Transit Authority (CTA) is happy to announce the ribbon cutting of the CTA Tram Bridge. This event will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. on the south lawn of the Gulfport Transit Center, facing Highway 90, next to the foot of the CTA Tram Bridge. The ribbon cutting ceremony will also include the unveiling of the historical marker for the Gulfport Transit Center building, which was previously the Harrison County Library.

“We are proud that this major project finished three months ahead of schedule and on budget,” said Kevin Coggin, Executive Director of Coast Transit Authority.

Event parking for guests will be complimentary in the CTA Parking Garage, located at 1417 20th Avenue, Gulfport, MS. Due to the Ribbon Cutting ceremony, CTA Gulfport Hub operations will be moved to 15th Street, just north of the CTA Parking Garage. This alternate pickup point will begin on February 22 at 8:00 a.m. and go until 1:00 p.m.

The CTA Tram Bridge is currently open to the public for pedestrian and bicycle activity. The CTA Tram Bridge provides a safe, direct connection from the CTA Gulfport Transit Center and Mississippi Aquarium across Highway 90 to the City of Gulfport’s Jones Park. The bridge will have a seventy-year life span requiring minimal scheduled maintenance. In addition to ADA accessible pedestrian and bicycle traffic, the bridge will accommodate a tram trolley from the CTA Gulfport Transit Center and Mississippi Aquarium that will operate initially from March through Labor Day, during the operating hours of the Mississippi Aquarium.

Visitors to large events held in Jones Park can now park in the CTA Parking Garage adjacent to the CTA Gulfport Transit Center and Mississippi Aquarium and cross the CTA Tram Bridge by walking into Jones Park or riding the free, ADA accessible CTA tram trolley that is propane-fueled and low emission.
