Coast Transit Authority (CTA) will historically phase out its hail system after 50 years of service. The hail system previously allowed riders to flag down buses anywhere along the route. After a 60-day grace period, beginning October 31, 2025, riders will be required to board and exit buses only at designated CTA bus stops. The change is part of CTA’s ongoing efforts to improve rider and community safety and improve route schedules.
To support the transition, CTA will launch a community campaign marking the end of the hail system and usher in a new era of safer and more reliable public transit across the Coast.
